Took the Wagster for a walk this morning in the sunshine, reflecting on how my life has changed this year - for poorer and for richer.  Happened upon Il Divo on my Ipod, listened to this and had a good cry as I walked.  I think the neighbours are getting used to 'the crying dog-walker'.

Songs that Make Your Heart Sing

During my life-changing weekend in London - of which more in due course - Judith who runs a high class private B&B in Canary Wharf was wittering on about Hilda Carroll's hyper-challenging game of blog tag to share those songs that make our hearts sing, Hilda being the happiness coach.  I zoned out after two minutes and managed to re-write War and Peace in my head before she'd finished bleating on about it but my take on what she said is this:

"Hilda's blog-tagged me and said it would be really quick and easy for me to play but it's taken me all week and has involved hours of internet research, four sessions in a flotation pool, early morning meditations, an emergency meeting with my dream team and some electric shock treatment.  And I still haven't managed to complete the task.

It Don't Have to Be Bach!

I was just zipping through Bill Ford's newsletter this morning, very quickly before I started work, honest guv, and I was taken with his passing comment about music.  He says:

"If you haven’t heard the song ‘Hallelujah’ done by Jeff Buckley, then you have
a treat in store. It is almost a life-changing song. Play it at night when the
house is still or late at night on the motorway on your own. It touches me in
parts I didn’t know could be reached."

Now I'm pretty sure I haven't come across this or I guess I would have remembered, but doesn't this sort of comment just make you want to dash off and find it quick?

I have never ever been a fan of Boney M, mostly because they wore weird sparkly clothes and sang nonsensical songs.  Not liking them because of the clothes they wore seems a bit narrow-minded of me but I once took a big dislike to a bloke simply because he had nail varnish on his toe nails so don't worry about it. 

"Brown girl in the ring, tra la la la la, she looks like a sugar in a plum (plum, plum)" - not to mention those other profound lyrics: "Hooray, hooray, it's a holi, holiday...". 

Well, who in heavens name bought these records?

But today I had one of those moments, just exactly like the one I had the day I heard Gary Puckett and the Union Gap singing "Young Girl" on a CD I'd casually slipped into the car stereo.

By which I mean that one minute I was listening to Boney M singing "Hark now hear the angels sing, a king was born today.  And man shall live for ever more because of Christmas Day" - and the next minute...
